Overview

Remio is a personal AI knowledge management tool that runs primarily on your local device. Unlike cloud-based note apps, Remio indexes everything — web highlights, local documents, PDFs, images, Slack messages, and meeting recordings — on your Mac or Windows machine. Your data does not leave your device unless you opt in. The core feature is Ask remio, a natural language search that queries your entire knowledge base at once. Instead of remembering where you saved something, you type a question and get a synthesized answer with source citations. For researchers, writers, and knowledge workers drowning in browser tabs and scattered files, this changes how retrieval works. Remio launched in March 2025 and has since added a Windows app, web search integration, Slack connectivity, a recording assistant for meetings, and a credit-based system for advanced AI queries. The free plan covers auto-capture and basic AI search. The Pro plan at $8.25 per month billed annually adds real-time webpage overviews, full meeting summaries, Smart Write, and multi-device sync.

How It Works

You install Remio on your Mac or Windows machine. A browser extension captures web pages, highlights, and bookmarks as you browse, and the desktop app indexes local folders, PDF files, images, and Markdown notes without uploading them anywhere. Slack and WeChat integrations pull in messages and shared content automatically. Once your knowledge base is populated, you interact with it conversationally. Type a question in the Ask remio panel and the AI retrieves relevant notes, files, or web clips and synthesizes an answer. The @ mention feature directs questions at specific notes or collections instead of searching your full library. The recording assistant joins meetings without a bot, capturing audio and generating summaries and action items. Basic AI search runs free indefinitely; advanced model queries use a credit system introduced in Remio 2.0, released in October 2025.
